The bioeconomy offers solutions to unify the economy and ecology over the long term. Supplying steadily growing cities and metropolitan regions with sustainably produced foodstuffs is among the future’s major challenges. The SUSKULT and CUBES Circle Agrosystems of the Future consortia are working on new approaches to food production in urban spaces. With their innovative ideas, they are entering the race for the German Sustainability Award 2020.

The Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) is sponsoring the 9th German Sustainability Award for urban bioeconomy research. In contrast to the prior years, the focus is not on projects that have already been concluded but on innovative ideas. These will be developed during a virtual Makeathon on 18/19 June 2020.

The Agrosystems of the Future consortia SUSKULT, coordinated by the Fraunhofer Institute UMSICHT and CUBES Circle, coordinated by the Humboldt University of Berlin, are entering the race for the award this year. Both consortia will contribute the central ideas from their projects to the accompanying Makeathon.
