DAKIS presents the new EUROSPOT App

The German government's Digital Summit took place in Jena from 20-21 November 2023. The «Agricultural Systems of the Future» were represented by the DAKIS consortium.

Frauke Geppert, Marvin Melzer and Karoline Hemminger presented the latest DAKIS software and the EROSPOT web app at the stand of the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF). The visit of Federal Minister Bettina Stark-Watzinger to the BMBF stand was a special event and showed the great interest in the innovations on display.

As part of the Market of Digital Opportunities, Marvin Melzer led a workshop on "Agriculture & Erosion Control - A Digital Twin for Practice". Climate change, the loss of biodiversity and the increasing shortage of resources are leading to conflicting goals in agriculture while demand for food is rising worldwide. The "DAKIS" project is addressing these challenges and the future of agriculture and developing digital support systems. Marvin Melzer presented the EROSPOT web app, the DAKIS module for identifying suitable locations for erosion control measures. An interactive survey app was used to test prior knowledge of erosion. Around 20 participants were able to test the app and play through various scenarios and questions: For example, how can a possible fish kill in a lake surrounded by arable land be explained by soil ingress? Where does the visible damage to a wheat crop after heavy rain come from? Where can erosion control be implemented effectively? Marvin Melzer considers the workshop a success: "The workshop showed us that even people without specialist knowledge can quickly find their way around the app and understand the connections between agriculture and erosion control."
